Intereresting, Kyle. Janet M Harvey speaks to the value of judgement, which has elements of comparison in it.

A thought: For bronze medalists in team sports, one thing that adds joy to their ‘comparison’ is perhaps that the bronze team ends on a win and the silver team ends on a loss. The ending offers a big experiential difference with a psychological ripple effect.

Kyle, I love the thought provocation! Quite intriguing. I hear you, re self development. But why should we link self improvement to others? Wouldn’t it better if we set targets for ourselves, regardless of others! I believe comparisons are detrimental. In most times it ends up taking people on a negative thought slippery slope! Unfortunately we live in a highly competitive world, which robs joy and peace from our kids growing up journey ! They are always thriving to do better, achieve more, do more, and be more! A lot of them feel, they are never good enough! They are always comparing and ending up with a constant feeling of dissatisfaction. I wish we could all pause and try cooperation vs competition! I wish there is a way forward, whereby we can focus more on the success of the group, lifting everyone up, vs the world’s current individualistic approach. Cooperation allows to share success regardless of who did what, it helps us build on each other's knowledge and strength and support each other on our journey. We cannot be comparing and at the same cooperating! But I might be wrong. Thanks for the provocation. I will give it a bit more thinking.
